This weekend in Hamilton has a little bit of everything: a craft beer festival on the waterfront, a night market out in Freelton, and the opening salvo of two major summer events landing next week. If you’ve been waiting for a proper summer weekend, this is a good one to get out for.

Catch Big Wreck and craft beer at Because Beer Festival on the waterfront

Saturday, July 11 · 3:00 p.m.–midnight · Pier 4 Park, Hamilton Harbour · Ticketed event

The Because Beer Craft Beer Festival takes over Pier 4 Park on Saturday with a full afternoon and evening of live music, craft beer, and food against the backdrop of Hamilton Harbour. Big Wreck headlines, which alone makes this worth the trip. It’s one of the better excuses to spend a Saturday on the west harbour waterfront all summer.

Spend a summer evening at the West Avenue Cider Night Market

Saturday, July 11 · 4:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. · West Avenue Cider, 84 Concession 8 East, Freelton · Free admission

Out in Freelton, West Avenue Cider is hosting their Night Market on Saturday evening — local vendors, handmade goods, laughs, and plenty of cider in a genuinely beautiful countryside setting. It runs concurrently with the beer festival, so pick your vibe: harbour or hillside. Either way, Saturday is sorted.

Pick up a band tee at Rock ‘N’ Tees on King East

Ongoing · 199 King Street East · Free to browse

If your weekend includes any time on King Street East, Rock ‘N’ Tees is worth a stop. This locally owned, family-run shop has been a downtown fixture since 1984, stocking an enormous selection of band T-shirts, music and movie posters, and footwear from Dr. Martens, Converse, and Vans. Forty-plus years in and still going strong — that’s worth supporting.

Ongoing · 219 King Street East · Free to browse

While you’re on King East, Cherry Birch General Store makes their own homemade ice cream in-house — alongside 100% Canadian-made gifts, artisanal snacks, and fresh baked goods. It’s the kind of neighbourhood shop that makes an afternoon on the street feel like a proper outing. Perfect mid-afternoon stop before or after the festival.
