School Specialty Coffee is expanding to Hamilton with a second location on Locke Street South.

The café announced the news on social media, sharing that after opening its first shop inside Mapleview Centre three years ago, it was ready for its next chapter. Since launching, the business has built a loyal following around exceptional Canadian roasters, quality coffee, and a strong sense of community.

According to the owners, Locke Street stood out because of its vibrant mix of independent businesses and supportive local residents.

The new café will take over a long-vacant storefront at 145–147 Locke St. S., just north of Bold Street, formerly occupied by a payday loan business.

They are transforming this space into a specialty coffee destination focused on award-winning Canadian roasters, fresh food, and a place where people can slow down, connect, and stay awhile,” the post said.

The opening will bring a new coffee option to the neighbourhood following the closure of Democracy in December.

School Specialty Coffee thanked customers for their support over the past three years, noting that the expansion would not have been possible without the community that helped the business grow from its original Mapleview Mall location.

An opening date has not yet been announced.
